A Radio Club was formed to investigate the possibility of providing a Hospital Radio service to the as yet unfinished Withybush Hospital. Initial funds of £500 and 500 records were donated by North Pembrokeshire Grand Lodge RAOB. 1500 records were donated by Milford Haven Lions Club.

The hospital building was finished and patients were transferred from the old County Hospital. The radio club embarked on some test broadcasts using commercial disco equipment, from a trolley bay in the so far unused outpatients department. The experimental broadcasts were a huge public relations success and the hospital authorities decided to allow the radio station to go on air permanently from a temporary studio affectionately known as the broom cupboard.
